PU Removal on Peninsular Hotel TST

The roof of the Peninsular Hotel has had it’s problems with waterproofing over the years.A-Pex was called in to remove the thick coating of Polyurathane with minimum noise disturbance to the guests below.

The short film show us using a Planetary Grinder with sharp Tungsten Carbide teeth and large Diamond Segments to shred the PU and leave the tiles below intact.

A new building in Kwun Tong, Hong Kong

A new building in Kwun Tong, Hong Kong had problems with damp rising from under the basement floors and causing the floor coating to ‘bubble.’

This video shows the quick process of floor planing and diamond grinding in which we used the Von Arx VA 30SH and a DHG 700 Planetary Grinder. As with all our projects the work is carried out in a dust free environmen.

Retroplate System

A-Pex has just finished the 7000 m2 of Retroplate System on the new Media Centre at the City University in Kowloon Tong This was the first time environmentally friendly method has been employed in Hong Kong.

Using Diamond Grinders, the concrete floor level is reduced up to around 4 mm to expose the aggregate. This also makes the floor extremely smooth.

The Retroplate System is poured onto the new surface and left to penetrate for 24 hours. This gives the concrete the strength of granite.

After the 24 hour window there follows a 5 stage grinding / polishing process to bring the surface to a glass smooth finish in either matt of gloss shine.

An old Tsing Yi warehouse with multiple coatings of Epoxy.

Projects like these generally need 2 passes. First pass using heavy, large diameter steel shot. This helps break down the layers of epoxy. By slowing the machine down it is possible to remove all the layers in 1 go but this can leave an uneven finish on the concrete.

We choose to do the second pass with a lighter steel shot which removes the remainding parts of epoxy and leaves an ideal concrete surface ready for new coating.

A-Pex wins contract using Retroplate, the environmentally friendly flooring system.

Taites Cairn Tunnel

A-Pex have recently won the contract for the removal of the Thermoplastic lines in the Taites Cairn Tunnel that runs from Diamond Hill to Sha Tin. The contract is 32000 linear metres and will finished over the course of 2 months.

This contract will be done with the newly purchased VA25 Twin (Pictured). This Swiss made machine uses 2 drums. The first drum removes the thick part of the thermoplastic while the second drum cleans the remainder of the surface to leave a coarse, clean finish. This machine is up to 12 times quicker than the methods commonly being employed in Kong Kong presently.

Western Harbour Crossing.

Clear Water Bay

In Clear Water Bay District we wer called in to cut through three floors to create a lift shaft.

We used the Braun Wall BWS 12H machine. Using this we wer able to cut Three squares identically in line.

Hong Kong International Airport

Apex Systems were hired to grind the 30000 metres of joint walls after the contractor had removed the failed expansion joint.

3 machines and 3 men were able to diamond grind the 30mm deep on both sides. Although the time frame was tight (10am-3pm) we were able to complete 2500 linear metres of joints per day.
